W. D. Stedman is president of The Stedman Corporation, a textile manufacturing firm founded by his father in Asheboro. The company is one of the largest privately-held manufacturers of men's underwear in the nation. Besides his business interests, Stedman has an interest in astronomy and archaeology and is the father of a former Miss North Carolina. He is featured in this month's WE THE PEOPLE MAGAZINE's North Carolina Businessman in the News.

In 1971, the North Carolina General Assembly authorized a one-year medical program at East Carolina University. Dr. Wallace R. Wooles, Dean of the East Carolina University School of Medicine, presents the case for expanding the school to a two-year program.

Star Foods, located in downtown Burlington, is one of North Carolina's pioneer producers of convenience food which include a line of salad mixtures and barbecue. It is a family business and is headed by a woman president, Mrs. Otto Caudle.
