North Carolina is seeking to increase the competitiveness of its two commercial ports in Wilmington and Morehead City. A feasibility study is underway to determine the effects on groundwater of deepening Wilmington harbor to accommodate larger ships.

Abstract:
The U.S. EPA sponsored a five-year \"field validation\" study in Carteret County to gauge the environmental impact of pesticide runoff on the South River System. The results suggest that no adverse biological impact can be attributed to pesticide runoff.
