Major Caleb Vance Haynes of Mount Airy is the head of the U.S. flying fortress fleet and personal goodwill ambassador of the United States on such assignments as the goodwill flight to quake-stricken Chile, the flight to Mexico with the body of Francisco Sarabia, who died after a crash near Washington, D.C., and the famous goodwill flight to Argentina, which opened Cordell Hull's program with the South American republics.
