Abstract:
General Bryan Grimes was born 1828 in Grimesland, Pitt County. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1848 and was a member of the Convention which adopted the Ordinance of Secession in 1861. He was promoted to Colonel in 1862 and had a great career. Although injured several times, the war could not kill him, but an assassin did.

Abstract:
Near Highlands is a farm of 125 foxes. S. L. McCarty is breeding foxes at the Silver Fox Farm that will eventually be used for their skins, which can be worth between $15 and $1,000.

Abstract:
In was 18 years ago that the Rev. Hannah Jewett Powell, said to be North Carolina's first ordained woman minister went to Inman's Chapel in Haywood County. For fifteen years, Powell occupied the pulpit of Inman's Chapel and began a series of vigorous religious activity among the Haywood County mountaineers.
