Duels were fought between some well-known North Carolinians in the 19th-century, and some were fatal. Lawrence recounts some of them including the Richard Dobbs Spaight-John Stanly duel of 1802; Samuel P. Carson-Dr. R.B. Vance of 1827; and the Thomas L. Clingman-William L. Yancey duel.

Abstract:
Formerly known as Pettigrew's Chapel, St. David's Episcopal Church, located in Creswell in Washington County, is one of the outstanding historical churches in the state. The church dates back to 1797 and serves as a memorial to Charles Pettigrew who was the first Bishop of the Episcopal Church in North Carolina.
