Abstract:

In 1883, Walter Page issued a prospectus of a new weekly newspaper to be published in Raleigh, the STATE CHRONICLE. He thought there was room for not only a better paper but also a different kind of paper. The CHRONICLE was a success under Page, until he later left to become U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James in England.
