Abstract:
Moore County has a talc mine in the town of Hemp. Talc is a powder that comes from pyrophillite, a crumbly type of stone. Standard Mining Company has operated the mill and mines for the past fifteen years, and it is estimated that a million tons are still in the ground to be mined. Some of the talc is used for making talcum powder, but most of it is used as inert filler.
