In 1860, Edmund Ruffin, Virginia's Agricultural Editor, wrote his observations of coastal North Carolina. The report, Sketches of Lower Carolina was printed in 1861 and is reproduced in segments within this article. The second in a series produced by The State, this article contains an image of the \"Mullet Line.\"
