Abstract:
Researchers are working to help produce an upswing in the peach lands of Sandhills after the past decade has seen a decline in acreage and yield. The peach is a valuable part of the Sandhills economy and peaches produced here find their way to all parts of the United States. Researchers are working on zinc depletion and replanting processes to help bear more productive peach trees.

Continuing the Mouzon Map, this section overlaps the previously printed one with Carteret County. The map shows long-gone counties and extinct towns. Present-day Jacksonville is shown as a ferry site. Kinston is called Kingstowne.

Abstract:
July was the 100th anniversary of the beginning of work on the great Albemarle & Chesapeake Canal, which went uncelebrated in Currituck County. The canal, which connects the waters of Chesapeake Bay with those of the Albemarle Sound, was begun near Coinjock in July, 1855 and proved to be an important commercial waterway for many years.
