Colonel Olds began collecting artifacts of historical significance to the state of North Carolina in the late 1870s and since 1902 has given a large amount of time and effort to the Hall of History in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has also spent a significant portion of his life writing and recording the history of North Carolina.
