An exhibition of Ruth E. Carter's work "Afrofuturism in Costume Design" is currently featured in the North Carolina Museum of Art. In 2019, Carter became the first African American to win an Academy Award for costume design.

This article details the artwork of eight Indigenous artists in an exhibit called To Take Shape and Meaning. Their artwork isn’t only reflective of contemporary culture, but the artists are also honoring their own cultures and traditions. Some of the art includes jewelry, masks, painted gourds, pottery, hand-woven baskets, corn-husk dolls, and stone carvings.

This annual NCMA exhibit airs March 13-17, 2024, and was originally begun in 2015. The exhibition of floral displays is meticulously planned in advance and was conceived in 2014 as a departure from the traditional fundraising gala model. for protection of patrons and the museum environment, there is a strict policy that all natural materials be treated with pesticides.
