Edmund Ricks, b. Mar. 16, 1759 in Surry Co., VA, d. Sept. 1836 in Pitt Co., NC; moved to Pitt Co., NC with his mother in March 1777. He married Rebecca Little, who died in Edgecombe Co., NC.
Note from Jan. 26, 1785 from Major John Herrington, of _____? to Col. John Simpson, of Pitt Co. stating he and his wife heard of the death of his uncle, Col. John Hardee (d. Dec. 4, 1784) and Mrs. Herrington begs that Col. John Simpson keep what is coming to us until next October.
George Turnage, of Craven Co., NC stated that on Nov. 17, 1781 that John Stancell, of Dobbs Co., NC, came to his house in Craven Co., NC and threatened and hit him with a loaded gun.
On Apr. 13, 1850, Mary Smith, of Red River, TX, relict of Samuel S. Smith, dec’d. (son of Cannon Smith of Pitt County) appoints Frederick Johnson, of Pitt County, her power of attorney, to take out letters of administration on the estate of her late husband.
On July 20, 1818, Samuel Simpson, of Craven Co., guardian of W. Henry Smith, John Stanly Smith, Eliza Smith, and David Rufus Smith, minor heirs of David Smith, dec’d. of Pitt County, sold to John S. Easton the half acre lot known as the John Simpson Cemetery.
On Nov. 17, 1920, at a box party in the Hollywood School House, there was a surprise wedding of Dewey Clinton McGowan, son of R. H. McGowan, to Lena B. Dudley, dau. of J. C. Dudley.
On Aug. 20, 1827, Richard Hines, Sr. of Edgecombe Co., NC gave two acres on the north side of Clay Root and east side of Horse Pen Branch in Pitt County to the Reformed Baptist Church.
