Thomas Built Buses, Inc., founded by Perley A. Thomas in High Point in 1916, began as a maker of streetcars. In 1936, the company began building buses and today is the world's largest school bus manufacturer. The company operates four manufacturing facilities in North Carolina with a workforce of 1,250.
