Abstract:

First opened to the public as a private museum in 2002, the site was later acquired in 2008 by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. One of the museum's most popular attractions are displays related to the United States Lifesaving Service. In 2025, the museum recorded over 60,000 visitors.

Abstract:

Founded in 1967, the Country Doctor Museum was born from the interest of two women physicians, who were daughters of country doctors; namely, Dr. Josephine Newell and Dr. Gloria Graham. The two worked with co-founders Mary Gilliam Carr and Betty McCain. The Country Doctor Museum is the oldest such museum in the nation focusing on American rural medical history.

Described as an aquarium and history museum merged together, the facility located in Washington, N.C. was created in 1998 to bring attention to the Albemarle-Pamlico estuary. It began as an educational center but has since grown into tourist destination.

Abstract:

In 2026, the Elizabethan Gardens celebrates its 75th anniversary. The most iconic area of the Gardens is the Sunken Garden with its ornate display of boxwoods. In April 2025, the Sensory Garden was dedicated, featuring plants for sight, smell, taste and touch.
