Abstract:
Colonial North Carolina was very aware of the economic disruption caused by the ease at which debtors could disappear from the province without paying creditors. In 1715, a law establishing the ship owners submit s security bond to prevent exportation of debtors. Abstracted in the article here are some 35 vessel bonds posted at the Edenton port in 1759.
