A federal audit of the Durham Housing Authority by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of the Inspector General found an overwhelming number of housing quality violations. Anthony Scott, the new president and CEO, says these problems stem from federal government cutbacks and inefficient inspections.

Women’s Theatre Festival, North Carolina's first festival devoted to female theater artists, begins Saturday with Occupy the Stage in Raleigh. The festival features a marathon of staged readings, full productions, and workshops to promote opportunities for women directors and producers.

Brice Randall Bickford and his wife, Lara Khalil, left their metropolitan lifestyles to go backpacking in South America. In 2012, they returned to Durham, North Carolina to record their album called Paro. The themes of the record reflect observations from the couple’s travels and the downfalls of a modern, advanced world.

Abstract:
For the past two decades, Dave Wofford has been hand-setting movable type and cranking paper through a press to create beautifully textured printed artifacts. Wofford started Horse & Buggy Press in Raleigh before moving to Durham, where he has run it out of the Bull City Arts Collaborative, which he cofounded for the last decade.
