Bev Perdue stepped down from her role as governor after experiencing a frustrating term, often meeting Republican resistance. Three candidates are likely to vie for the gubernatorial seat: Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton, Erskine Bowles, and Brad Miller.

Abstract:
Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans was a well-respected Durham citizen and active member in her community and state. She was the great niece of Duke University's founder, first woman elected to Durham City Council, and governor for a period between 1953 and 1955. The heiress' memorial service was held at Duke Chapel, Monday January 30th, 2012.
