Abstract:
Redistricting and outside money have changed the outlook for Democratic Candidates running for spots in the House of Representatives. These changes greatly affect four specific districts, the seventh, eighth, eleventh, and thirteenth, where redistricting moved Democratic leaning voters into already majority Democratic districts. Organizations like Karl Rove's Crossroads have also funneled millions of dollars into these races, further strengthening the Republican candidates' races.
Abstract:
The Department of Justice concluded a two year investigation of the Alamance County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Terry Johnson. Evidence demonstrated that the Sheriff and his office are guilty of racial profiling Latinos by targeting this population with various forms of enforcement. U.S. Assistant Attorney General said the Department of Justice will work cooperatively with the county's sheriff's department but if the problem is not remedied legal action will be necessary.
Abstract:
The Roanoke Rapids Theater was constructed in 2005 at a cost of $21.5 and was intended to promote economic growth by becoming a tourist stop along heavily travelled I-95. This venture proved to be a bust and now local residents are suing Roanoke Rapids and Halifax County for compensation in property tax after the grand theater raised land assessments.
