Abstract:
Thanksgiving over 100 years ago was much different than it is today. This narrative describes some of the events that happened at Thanksgiving in 1893 in Greenville. There were sportsmen chasing deer. The Baptist Church rang its bell and church services were held. Andrew Joyner, manager of the Bedal Gold Cure Institute and Keeley Institute in Virginia, for the cure of alcoholics, invited all the graduates and a few friends to a Thanksgiving dinner at the Hotel Macon. A game of football was held later between the Academy team and the Town team. On Thanksgiving night, the Greenville Amateurs presented a comedy at the Opera House.
