Miss Lillie Grandy was the first president of the Woman’s Club of Elizabeth City, NC and was a moving spirit in the community. She got the State Legislature to provide funds for libraries, pushed Home Demonstration, and gave numerous scholarships. She requested at her death, ‘don’t send me flowers, plant dogwood trees in your yard.’
