Ricky Kimmel and Jimmy Brown are derby regulars at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. For both drivers and spectators alike, watching cars being pounded is a big drawing card in North Carolina. Usually the action is most prevalent in the fall.

Occoneechee Speedway is one of NASCAR's original tracks and the only surviving dirt track from its 1949 inaugural season.. In 2002, the Occoneechee Speedway trail opened and is currently under care of the Classical American Homes Trust.
