A new social district law was passed in September 2021, allowing an establishment to open "well-defined areas in which individuals can drink alcoholic beverages sold by permitted establishments." In the spirit of this new law, cities across North Carolina, including Greensboro, Durham, and Raleigh, have all adopted this idea, creating their own hub of downtown social districts.

AETNA, a Rhode-Island based health and life insurance company, plans to to take the edge in 2025 against Blue Cross Blue Shield with a three-year contract. The contract was awarded by The Health Plan's governing board, who plans to offer over 740,000 Raleigh-Durham residents a new option for health insurance.

Bogue Sound, located on the borders of Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach, is seen as a huge contributor to North Carolina's $30 million oyster industry but may be under scrutiny by locals using moratoriums--temporary prohibitions of activity.

North Carolina's General Assembly has passed Bipartisan legislation signed by Governor Roy Cooper that will readjust the state's approach to reducing carbon pollution. It is a goal for North Carolina to become carbon neutral moving into 2050, "ditching dependency on fossil fuels, coal, oil, and gas."

During this time, Sothern Pines Growler (brewery) and volunteered food trucks helped feed hundreds of individuals, "making residents and business owners realize how special this place is."
