In 1864, a train accident near the town of Shohola, PA killed 49 Confederate prisoners (mostly North Carolinians) and their 17 Union Guards. In 1911, the US government moved their graves from near Shohola, PA to Woodlawn Cemetery, outside of the Civil War prison at Elmira, NY. The monument erected in their honor gives the names of the dead and their regiments.
