Died on Mar. 10, 1938 in Ayden, NC, Gatsey Braxton, age 80, widow of John Braxton. She was a well known black woman, served as a midwife, living on Gatsy’s Lane and her funeral services were held in Gatsey’s Chapel, a little chapel in South Ayden, that bore her name. She was buried beside her husband in Smithsonian Cemetery.
