Petition by the women of the vicinity of Falkland, NC to exempt R. H. Parker from military service. He was wounded in 1862 in the battle at Sharpsburg and came home to recover. His father is alive, age 77, and furnished six sons for the war and has two daughters whose husbands are at war. The women of the area are dependent on R. H. Parker for the necessities of life.

The object of the club was to paint drunkards in the streets. A young man named Thomas besmeared a Mr. Willis with asafetida and Willis went home, got his gun, had it repaired and went and found Mr. Thomas and shot him dead.

John Burney, a colored man, was cutting timber and when the saw became entangled and it struck him on his arm laying the bone bare. He hurried to Littlefield into the store of Mrs. Sue Beddard. She having strong nerve, sewed him up.
