In 2017, two veterans, David Steckel and Robert Greene Sands, purchased a dilapidated house on Third Street in Washington, NC and named it Rose Haven. These men formed the Pamlico Rose Institute for Sustainable Communities, a nonprofit focused on building strong communities and preserving history. Rose Haven is an initiative of the Institute.

This feature gives the story of how a nurse named Maggie Lebo, who while walking her dog at Kitty Hawk, came upon a man face down in the sand. She immediately started CPR and out of nowhere came two Dominion Energy lineman named Jeremy Aycock and Quentin Conner, based out of Williamston, NC. They used their new AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and the three saved the tourists life.
