The courthouse was constructed between 1858 and 1861. Designed by William Percival, it's the only building to survive from Caldwell County's antebellum period.

As it celebrates a major anniversary, Reynolds American pledges its smokeless push portends 'A Better Tomorrow'." Reynolds American was started in 1875 in Forsyth County by Richard Joshua Reynolds. the company is now part of British American Tobacco. the company and tobacco industry in general took a big hit in 1998 with the Master Settlement Agreement which major tobacco companies agreed to pay $206 billion to 46 states to cover healthcare costs associated with smoking.

"North Carolina lands its third PGA Tour event of 2026, striking a big opportunity for Buncombe County." The Biltmore Championship in Asheville will be held Sept. 17-20, 2026. Asheville's tournament purse is expected to be in the neighborhood of $8-9 million. With this event, North Carolina becomes the fourth state to hist three annual PGA Tour stops.
