Abstract:

A statue of Stephen Langton stands on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Few people notice it, and fewer know who he was. It was Langton, who as the Archbishop of Canterbury, led the barons in forcing King John to sign a paper, known as the Magna Charta.
