Abstract:
Carolina Planning regularly publishes a feature highlighting projects from members of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (NCAPA). This year’s submissions focus on community planning initiatives that utilize a wide range of collaborations, ranging from updated citizen engagement techniques, partnering with the NC Department of Transportation to slow traffic and create a pedestrian street environment, and a variety of intergovernmental collaborations.

Abstract:
The authors explore how the City of Durham developed a pilot study to address access to transit with the objective of identifying ways to reduce the exposure of pedestrians and cyclists to crashes and improving connectivity for transit users to destinations.

Abstract:
Until 2017, one of the areas that had received comparatively little political attention in North Carolina’s state lawmakers is transportation. Under a Republican-controlled state government, ceasing the transfer of funds from the Highway Fund and Highway Trust Fund. This, along with a change in taxes and fees, promised to provide more funds for transportation-related projects. An accompanying chart illustrated the proposed transportation spending over the next four years.
