Abstract:
Spanish moss, a member of the bromeliad family, does not parasitically strangle trees. Instead, the plant thrives both in and on air, absorbing all nutrients and water it needs from the wind.

Abstract:
Spanish moss is not a parasite. It only requires trees or objects like trees for physical support. It is one of North Carolina's most misunderstood plants. Like many orchids, it's an air plant.
