Abstract:

A photo of the “Stonewall Iron Stack” in Lincoln County taken by Steve Thornburg for the Lincolnton Times-News is identified by Mrs. Frances Puckett of Iron Station as having been built by James Madison Smith. Smith's family was one of five that controlled the manufacture of iron in the Piedmont.
