Abstract:

A companion to “Hole in the Wall Joints: Tried and True,” this article profiled nine restaurants located in towns stretching from the coast to the mountains and whose menus range from seafood to snacks. Local spots that became the hearts of their towns included Waterfront Seafood Shack, Kitty Hawk; Allen and Son, Chapel Hill; and Dots Dario, Marion.

Abstract:

The small town of Calabash, a collection of sleepy streets and over twenty restaurants, is legendary for seafood. However, as the town grows, it must deal with familiar issues of land use and sewage treatment.

Abstract:

Even in the midst of a region well known for production of seafood, the little town of Calabash managed to earn a larger than life reputation. As for the town’s recipe for success, the owner of one of the oldest restaurants asserted that the key ingredient was keeping it simple.
