"As it enters its 16th year, the Field of Honor at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum has become a moving way for the Fayetteville community to pay tribute to the free and the brave." the museum is located on 100 Bragg Blvd in downtown Fayetteville. A moving display of American flags, the Field of Honor is partnership between the museum and Cool Spring Downtown District.

The North Carolina Civil War& Reconstruction History Center will expand and replace Museum of the Cape Fear. Both city and county have provided funding for the $80 million endeavor. The center will explain the Civil War through written history, stories and legends passed down through generations.

How to boost holistic success for Cumberland County a decade down the road had been planned by groups such as Fayetteville’s Economic Development Alliance. Planned was development and improvement of the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, Airborne and Special Operations Museum, historic downtown center, Arts Council, minor league baseball stadium, Civil War History Center, and Performing Arts Center.

The Museum of the Cape Fear in Fayetteville, which opened in 1988, is the third branch of the N.C. Museum of History. The opening assures that all citizens are no further than 100 miles from a state-affiliated museum.
