Sally Kay, a 1988 graduate of Clemson University, is president of The Hosiery Association. After graduation, she worked in the hospitality industry in Charlotte. In 1990, she went to work for what was then known as the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers. In 2001, she was elected the association's first woman president. The 300 association members make and distribute approximately 85 percent of the country's hosiery. About half of the hosiery mills are located in North Carolina. Kay discusses some of her job activities.

Fashion-Flo was a mail order company founded in the small town of Siler City, population approximately 3,000 in 1947. E. A. Resch started the business in October 1944 and ran it from his office at Chatham News, which he published. The main product sold was hosiery with Chadbourn Hosiery Mills, Inc. taking large stock in Fashion-Flo. Distribution of Fashion-Flo's circulars expanded through the mid-1940s and other local Siler City institutions noticed an increase in business.

Kelly Nester, CEO of Nester Hosiery in Mount Airy is the brainchild of Farm to Feet socks, which first appeared in stores in 2013. The brand has been largely popular since its inception and serves as a model of sustainability.
