"For more than 50 years, a dazzling chandelier has hung in the dining room of the Executive Mansion in Raleigh. Only recently has its remarkable backstory been fully illuminated." Robert Horowitz escaped the Holocaust with his parents and eventually settled in western North Carolina. the family. His mother and her brothers were later successful in recovering heirlooms left by their parents in Germany. One of those items, a chandelier by the famed Lobmeyr company in Vienna was gifted to the state of North Carolina in 1968 and received for the Executive Mansion by then First Lady Jeanelle Moore.
