Abstract:
In 1968, Abbott Laboratories of North Chicago opened two plants at Rocky Mount. Before deciding on this city, the company had studied around 200 sites in sixteen states. The decision to come to North Carolina was based on availability of personnel, land cost, community appeal, and good transportation facilities. A third plant which is scheduled to open in 1970 is under construction at Laurinburg. Abbott is a manufacturer of health care products.
