Abstract:
Thousands of hazardous chemicals are in use in North Carolina workplaces and homes every day, thus accidents can happen. In North Carolina the governmental regulatory response to concerns of hazardous chemicals has taken two forms: occupational safety and health standards and the Hazardous Chemicals Right to Know Act.

Several old landfill sites in Beaufort County have been found to be leaking dangerous chemicals into the groundwater. So far the drinking water for residents seems to be untouched.
