As safety violations are uncovered at a nuclear fuel plan in Wilmington, the key complainant experiences intimidation and retaliation for making claims against G.E. As a result of an external investigation by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the company has been cited for needlessly risking the health, not only of the 1,700 G.E. processing-plant employees, but also the 100,000 residents living in and around southeastern North Carolina’s largest city.

General Electric Company's decentralization program has brought four plants to North Carolina. Along with bringing diversification of industry to the state, General Electric Company's new plants are bringing large investments and space, and jobs making electric light wires, automatic blankets and heating pads, outdoor lighting, and transformers.

During the Annual Street and Highway Lighting Conference conducted by the General Electric Company's Outdoor Lighting Department in Asheville and Hendersonville, North Carolina, a call for improved street and highway lighting was presented. G.E. also revealed a proving ground for simulating roadway lighting conditions in order for engineers to test systems to reduce hazards through better equipment.
