Abstract:
The article presents information on Henredon Furniture Industries, located in Morganton. The company is one of the state's newer furniture makers, and it has attained a national reputation. Work on the site began in 1945, with a plant completion in 1946, and first furniture pieces shipped in 1947.

Abstract:
In 1945, four men in Morganton pooled their resources, skills, and experience to form Henredon Furniture. Parts of their names were used to form the acronymic corporate name. The company, which began with a product line of three chests, now manufactures a complete line of wood and upholstered furniture and has attained a national reputation.

Increased labor costs as well as shipping costs more recently associated with Chinese imports are giving opportunity for a resurgence of North Carolina's furniture industry. Chaddock Furniture Workroom originally started in California and now in Morganton has chosen to target the luxury furniture market.. In 1990, North Carolina had more than 90,000 people working in the furniture industry. By 2009, this number had dropped by more than a half due to a trade agreement that opened up imports from Asia. Kevin Ward is Chaddock's president.
