NC State anthropology professor Ann Ross helped solve the murder of Laura Ackerson by Grant Hayes. Ross was asked for help by the NC chief medical examiner and provided evidence that Hayes murdered Ackerson after examining Ackerson’s bones and those of juvenile pigs who had both been cut using a mechanical saw.
