Abstract:

On August 3, 1964, Granville County became the first county in North Carolina to have its own flag. Credit for this goes to Elizabeth Hicks Hummel. Her advocacy nearly three decades earlier led to one of the first North Carolina highway historical markers being placed in Granville County.
