Abstract:

Events in the winter of 1953 sparked what later became the legend of the "Beast of Bladenboro". A panther-like creature, charged with a spree of vampire like killings of livestock was never located. In 2008, the legend became a theme for a festival promoting the town of Bladenboro. Currently, the event is one of the largest fall festivals in southeaster North Carolina.
