Thad Eure, who was born in Hertford County, is the subject of this biographical sketch. He was mayor of Winton before he was elected to the 1929 North Carolina House of Representatives. He has been principal clerk of the House for the last two sessions.

Abstract:
The North Carolina Citizens Association presented That Eure, North Carolina Secretary of State, with its Citation for Distinguished Public Service at its annual meeting. Eure's forty-six years as Secretary of State is a national record for that office and also a record for all statewide offices in North Carolina.

This article tells of the future opening of the Thad Eure Museum on the second floor of the old Gates County Court House in Gatesville, NC. Eure, who was born in Gates County, went to UNC-Chapel Hill, served in the US Army, was mayor of Winton, NC, and then served as NC Secretary of State from 1937 to 1987.
