Abstract:
In the 1920s, North Carolina did not have a single county library. The Lexington and Thomasville Woman's Club set out to create one in Davidson County. Through their efforts and funds provided by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, the Davidson County Library opened on October 23,1928, the first public library in the state to open as a county library.

Davidson has been on the mainline for ages, many adventurers and travelers chronicling their stays in the region. One of the first to visit, German doctor John Lederer, came on an exploration trip from Virginia in May of 1670. His account chronicles his trip to Sara, in the vicinity of the trading path that crossed the Yadkin River, a route used by modern travelers today.

Abstract:
Davidson County was named for General Davidson, but it has been made famous for other reasons as well. Davidson County was the home of the Boone family, Daniel Boone that is, where Boone park is now located. Davidson County also houses the monument at Trading Fork where General Greene crossed the Yadkin River in his retreat toward Guilford Courthouse. It is also the locate of Thomasville, known for not only the largest chair factory in the country but al knitting mills, silk and rayon mills, and other manufacturing.

Abstract:
This article examines a series of 305 gravestones carved between 1803 and 1845 in Davidson County, North Carolina. During the course of examination two distinct styles of carving became apparent, Baroque and Gothic.

Abstract:
The Snyder baseball bat made famous a company in Reeds Crossroads owned by the Curran Snyder family. Snyder Bat Company is long defunct, but it lives on in its products’ quality and association with North Carolina baseball legend Johnny Temple.
