Abstract:
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) consisted of volunteer civilian aviators who patrolled and defended our nation’s borders during World War Two. One of the nation’s first CAP squadrons formed in Manteo, North Carolina. Today’s CAP includes efforts ranging from emergency transportation and reconnaissance during hurricanes and floods, to inland search-and-rescue missions, to training young fliers.
