Abstract:

It began a half-century ago in McAdenville, a small town of 600 people with wonderful Christmas decorations. There are many versions to the story of how it began, but the result is that every December over 600,000 people come there to see the lights. The lights, over 450,000 colorful bulbs, decorate about 375 trees in different patterns. It's not Christmas without a trip to McAdenville, or as it is known at this time of year Christmas Town USA.

During December, a town in Gaston County, McAdenville, hosts a community wide Christmas light display funded by Stowe-Pharr Mills textile company. McAdenville has become known as “Christmas Town, USA,” which brings in thousands of tourists wishing to see the lights.

McAdenville is known throughout the country as “Christmas Town USA” due to the vast number of Christmas lights on display. This article discusses how McAdenville got its nickname, the town history as a mill town, and its current growth.
