Bombshell Beer Company is North Carolina’s only all-female-owned microbrewery with all female brewers. Ellen Joyner, Michelle Miniutti, and Jackie Hudspeth started the brewery in Holly Springs with hopes of bringing more women into the craft beer world.

Tatiana Birgisson is the founder of the Durham energy drink company MATI. While a student at Duke, Tatiana began brewing tea with a Venezualen plant called yerbe mate, in order to battle depression. Now, MATI stands to alter a multibillion-dollar industry.

Women are an emerging force in the business world. For example, firms owned by women in the state grew ninety-four percent between 1987 and 1996. Sales from these companies rose 200 percent and employment 140 percent.
