This downtown district is being restored to its former glory, thanks to business owners like the author’s parents and businesses like the Dickinson Avenue Public House. From this initiative, it provides more than college hangouts for those dining out. The town’s reputation is also changing, from one unable to offer graduates reasons to stay to one alumnus can call home.

Thanks largely to the efforts of East Carolina University alumni, an area in Greenville in need of urban revitalization can declare this decades’ long dream reality. The Dickinson Avenue area is now an appealing place to live, work, and play in the opening of new restaurants and retail stores, an art studio and apartments.
