Scott Madry is an anthropologist known for his ability to use geographical information systems (GIS). He has created GIS maps for archaeologists, primatologists, and the National Geographic Society. For his latest project, Madry is working with North Carolina Department of Transportation to computerize every archeological site in North Carolina.

Brent Wissick, cello and viol da gamba professor in the music department, loves to find the story in the score. He is part of a new trend in rebuilding instruments that have entirely disappeared from modern performance. This inspired Wissick to new ways of hearing and performing music.

Although his teaching earns high marks, as does his advocacy for those without legal aid, Barry Nakell, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill law professor, was fired after two shoplifting charges. He received support from a faculty committee and is appealing the decision.
