Abstract:
James Brooks, who teaches at Wilkes County's West Wilkes High School, is the 2005 winner of the Terry Sanford Award for Creativity in Teaching and Administration. Brooks' award was for his development of a photojournalism class. The Sanford award, created in 1966 and now considered the NCEA's most prestigious award, honors educational contributions of Terry Sanford.

Abstract:
James Brooks, an English, film and photojournalism teacher at West Wilkes High School in Wilkes County, received the 2007 NEA Member Benefits-NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. The award was in recognition of his outstanding instructional expertise, attention to diversity, dedication to life-long learning, and creativity and innovation. The award carries a prize of $25,000. Brooks also was awarded the 2005 Terry Sanford Award for Creativity in Teaching and Administration.
